Double Digit Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLBY!
Today is Colby's 10th birthday! We celebrated on Friday with a football party at the county Rec center.  It was a great place to have a party.  Not having to have 12 ten year old boys at my house is a good thing!
 Playing football with all his friends on a field reserved just for them was Colby's dream come true.  These 4th grade boys sure take football seriously, they could have played for hours.  Mark was a good sport and acted as coach/referee for the football playing. 

As you know, Colby and I share a birthday so today is also my birthday.  I kinda made a deal with him that since we celebrated his day on Friday that today could be my "birthday off"  and that means that I get to sleep in, not do dishes and not make another cake! So far so good!  
I really can't believe that Colby is 10. 
I'm pretty sure I have learned more in the last 10 years being this kids mom than I had in the 23 years before I had him.  Colby is a fun loving, curious, smart, social, sweet kid who means the world to our family. 
We sure love you Colby and look forward to 10 more years with you!

Let the games begin

We have a Yankee in the family!
Colby was not too happy when he came home from his first baseball practice and informed us that he was on the Yankee's team. We are not Yankee's fans around here. Colby said that at least the real Yankee's team doesn't loose all the time!
Don't tell Colby that I posted these pictures. He was mad that I took pictures of him before he had his baseball pants. I thought I had three weeks before his season started and I hadn't gotten around to buying him some baseball pants so he had to play the first game in regular pants. He says that I need to take pictures of him now.
I promise Colby I will if it is ever warm enough for me to come to any of your games.
Yesterday was so freezing cold and windy that Colby was begging his dad to let him go home. Hopefully it warms up here pretty soon so that I can take the baby & not miss all of his games.
So far though he is learning a lot and is quite a good hitter. His passion for baseball just isn't as big as his passion for football & basketball so he isn't super committed.
But it's Little League and he's only 9 so I'm not to worried!
This may be the only time I say this but;
GO YANKEES!!

Hayden LOVES being at the games and wants so badly to go bat.  He even brings his own fat yellow bat and big plastic ball.  Someday soon Hayden dear.

Day 5

I bet you were all thinking that I was going to miss posting today.

Well, I almost did, but I didn't.

I'm kind of out of ideas though so I went through some old pictures and found some great ones of Colby.
Posting old pictures of the kids will give me days of subject matter.

I don't think there is a picture that makes Mark and I smile more than this one of Colby on his scooter. It will forever be our favorite. If you remember Colby in this stage of his life you may remember why we love it so much. He was such a character!
The boy did not care that mom forgot his swim shorts for Jordan's b-day party.
This will embarrass him someday though!

3rd grade romance

Mom, this year in 3rd grade a lot of the girls are chasing some of the boys and I am one of the boys getting chased. Lots of the girls like me.

Jocelyn and Harley like me but only Harley chases me. Except today, Mr.Campbell (the principal) told us that no one can chase anymore because he thinks someone is going to get hurt. So he ruined all our fun at recess. I guess we will have to go back to playing football or something.

This is what I heard from Colby today after school!

And he told me this too.... "today Pearl and Ricky broke up but then they got back together."

What?!?!?!?!?!?!? This is 3rd grade people. I am so not ready for this.

I told him that he didn't need start "going out" with people in 3rd grade and that he should just worry about playing football.

He says to me, "mom, we are growing up now, you are just going to have to change some of your rules."

Oh, man I really am not ready for this.

Although he is pretty cute!

Colby's first Pinewood Derby

I put this post on Colby's blog today but I also wanted to include it on my blog.

Do I really have a child that is old enough to be making Pinewood Derby cars and holding the flag at a flag ceremony? Really do I?

Wow! I guess I do.

I will brag about him though, he is so handsome and did a great job with the flag and the Pinewood Derby. Even though he didn't take first or even second or third he had fun and was a good sport.

After the first race and his car came in second he walked up to Mark and said "huh dad, looks like this car wasn't so fast after all."

Oh gees. What do you say back to that?

Goodbye GOLD Friend

Twas a sad day at our house. Colby's Gold fish Turbo that he won at the county fair died today, well yesterday but we finally buried him today. Colby actually discovered the dead fish before I did, but from his reaction I knew what had happened without having to ask. This was Colb's fourth fish in his life and just like the previous three, Colby was very emotional about it dying. Although he hardly remembered to feed it and never really had to clean the tank, Colb was VERY attached to each fish! He cried and cried and asked probably a hundred times if Jesus could please raise his fish from the dead. I guess I could have saved Colby from the heartache because I knew the fish was dying. However I feel that it is a good learning experience for kids to learn that every living thing dies and it gives us as parents a chance to teach them about Gods Plan and how death fits into Gods Plan. Colby kept saying, "but mom, I just miss Turbo so much, it is going to be years and years before I can see him again." to which I would answer, "Colby, I know how you feel, it is hard to miss the ones you love. I miss my Grams and Papa's a whole whole lot, but I know that I will see them again. I just have to be patient." Colby listens in his half listening Colby way and says, "MOM!! Don't start talking about Grammy and Papa and Papa or I will cry for days." I quit talking about them immediately. He is not kidding, he will cry for days, he has done it before!
So I finally got Colby to decorate a paper towel that we could wrap the fish in to bury it. Below is a picture of the Eulogy that Colby wrote to his fish "Terbo" or "Trebo" when he really mis-spells the name! After finishing this we went outside and he picked the spot to bury the fish and cried and cried until Corbin came around back looking for Colby to go ride bikes. So just that quickly Colby was over "Terbo". It won't be long though until Colb has a bad day and starts crying about all of his dead fish that he misses, only now he can add Terbo to his list of Girados, Blueberry and Cherry.
Colby has a very tender heart and gets attached to things quickly. I hope he never grows out of it. He is a sweet heart.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday when Colby came to visit us at the Hospital he had some good news! He is the student of the month for March! YEAH COLBY! We are so proud of him! Colby really has been a trooper through all of the craziness. He is such a smart kid and a GREAT BIG Brother. He has been so nice and kind and willing to help Cam, and tonight as they were going to bed he said "Goodnight Cam, I'm really glad you are home." How sweet is that? I have the GREATEST KIDS EVER!
